Valspar Championship Picks, Odds, and Field: Following the Action at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course

Xander Schauffele had all the chances in the world to capture the biggest win of his career at THE PLAYERS Championship last week, but ultimately falling short on Sunday isn’t stopping him from teeing it up this week.

He’ll now head a few hours south to headline the final leg of the Florida Swing: the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course.

He’s atop the golf odds board as an 8/1 favorite but other notables such as two-time champ Sam Burns and Justin Thomas are also in the mix. We break it all down and provide free golf picks in our full Valspar Championship betting preview below.

Valspar Championship field and favorites

Despite sharing an 18-hold lead and having the 54-hole lead to himself, Xander Schauffele couldn’t seal the deal on what would have been the biggest win of his career.

However, his form coming into the week is undeniable and his status as an 8/1 favorite reflects just that. He’s finished T10 or better in seven of his last 10 starts going back to August in a stretch that includes two runner-ups and a T3.

Two-time Valspar champ (2021, 2022) Sam Burns is second on the board at 11/1 despite cooling down after a hot start to the season. He logged four straight Top-10 finishes over the West Coast Swing before going T30 at Bay Hill and T45 at THE PLAYERS.

2015 winner Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are third and fourth at +1,400 apiece after missing the cut at TPC Sawgrass. Brian Harman rounds out the Top 5 at 22/1 after falling just short over the weekend (T2).

Defending champion Taylor Moore is on the board between 60/1 and 75/1 after going T48 at Bay Hill and T31 last week.

Valspar Championship picks and predictions

Maverick McNealy Top 30 (+170)

An underrated storyline to kick off the new season has been the resurgence of Maverick McNealy following last year’s shoulder injury.

After a forgettable (to say the least) 2023 and a slow start to 2024, he’s ripped off three Top-15 finishes in his last four starts, including a T6 in Phoenix and a T9 at THE PLAYERS last week.

He’s fourth in the field in total strokes gained over the last month as a result, ranking second in scrambling and 16th from tee to green over that span.

He finished T36 in his Copperhead debut a season ago, but that just so happened to be one of the best results of his 2023 campaign. Given the much-improved form this time around, the expectation for him to be a few spots better is a reasonable one.

Pick: Maverick McNealy Top 30 (+170 at BetRivers)

Nick Taylor Top 30 (+120)

A third-round 76 kept Nick Taylor out of true contention at TPC Sawgrass but the rest of his recent play has been particularly encouraging; look no further than his win in Phoenix.

He’s gone T39, T12, and T26 since that win and ranks 10th in the field in total strokes gained over the last three months. He also ranks sixth in putting and sixth on approach over that stretch.

The Canadian has eight years’ worth of experience here at Copperhead and logged a career-best T10 finish a season ago where he ranked eighth in the field from tee to green and 10th on approach.

If the ball striking remains the strength it has been, Taylor should have no problem getting back in the mix.

Pick: Nick Taylor Top 30 (+120 at BetRivers)
