That word ‘narrative’ is one that has been used all too often this season as Brendan Rodgers highlights the media perception of Celtic when their form took a slight dip.
Poor results in December coupled with dropped points in February allowed Rangers to close the gap at the top of the league and allowed the media to paint the narrative that the Ibrox club were favourites to win the title.
It was a suggestion that really annoyed the Celtic manager and made him go public and fight the club’s corner much like Ange Postecoglou had to do during his first tenure as the Hoops gaffer.
However, it seems that the ‘narrative’ has now turned after Rodgers took his side to Ibrox and claimed another point from Rangers. That’s according to Stephen Craigan.
Stephen Craigan hails ‘sublime’ Celtic
The BBC pundit was speaking about the Ibrox draw and now concedes that Rangers no longer have the edge in the title race.
In fact, Craigan seems to suggest that Celtic are now firmly in the driving seat and that the result in Govan may well change the opinion of the Hoops heading into the final six games.
Craigan said [Scottish Football Podcast], “I’m not sure they [Rangers] have the edge on it. I mean Celtic are sitting top of the table and Celtic’s best three performances of the domestic season have probably been in the Old F*rm games.
“So coming into the weekend’s game you probably thought, ‘Yeah, Rangers are slightly ahead with regards to momentum and feeling better about themselves.’
“But then Celtic’s performance in the first half was absolutely sublime. So suddenly then that changes your narrative a little bit and flicks it around the other way.
“So there’s no doubt it’s going to be down to the final Old Firm game of the season.
“Whoever can come out on top in that, clearly, is going to win the league. And if it is anything like it was on Sunday then everybody should be licking their lips.”
I don’t think many Celtic fans care about a media narrative on our club. All we will care about is that Rodgers continues to win and deny Rangers the title once more and gain entry into the group stages of the Champions League.
