The New Mexico State Aggies take on the Fresno State Bulldogs at University Stadium on Saturday in the New Mexico Bowl. New Mexico enjoys an in-state bowl game following a 10-win season. They lost their last game on December 1, a 49-35 loss to a good Liberty team. Fresno State, meanwhile, was 8-4 playing in the Mountain West, with their last game being a 33-18 loss to San Diego State on November 25. Which team can come off the break and perform in this bowl spot in Albuquerque?
The Momentum Factor
Both teams are coming off a loss, but for New Mexico State, losing to a 13-0 Liberty team was their first loss after an 8-game winning streak, so the Aggies have really poured it on in the second half of the season, their last game notwithstanding. Along the way, there have been some big results for the Aggies, including a 31-10 win over Auburn, not to mention fine form in conference play. Conversely, the Bulldogs really labored to the finish line. At one point, it looked as if they could be the class of the conference with an 8-1 mark, with wins over conference contenders Boise and UNLV. So, seeing them careen off a cliff in the last month in taking losses to the unexceptional trio of San Jose, New Mexico, and San Diego State really forces you to look at them a different way.
