Devils vs Rangers Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Blueshirts Kick Hudson River Rivals While They’re Down

The New Jersey Devils hit the road for a matchup against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. The Devils are big underdogs on the NHL odds board after blowing a 3-1 lead to the Penguins last night.

The Penguins also gave the Rangers some trouble earlier this week with a 6-3 victory at Madison Square Garden. The Blueshirts are looking to bounce back from that loss that ended a five-game winning streak.

Can the Rangers take care of business at home? Read on for our Devils vs. Rangers NHL picks and predictions on Wednesday, April 3.

Devils vs Rangers predictions

The New Jersey Devils were playing decent hockey for a bit with wins in four of six games — including against the Jets and in Toronto — but they’ve since lost two straight while being outscored 11-5 in the process. It doesn’t get any easier for them as they now take on a division rival after losing last night.

The New York Rangers currently sit atop both the Metropolitan Division and the entire NHL with 104 points in 75 games. Getting the top seed in the Eastern Conference is going to be crucial given the play of the teams vying for the second wild-card spot.

The Devils took out the Rangers in last year’s playoffs but New York has returned the favor this season with a 3-0 record and 13-5 goal differential in those head-to-head affairs. The Blueshirts won each of those games by at least two goals, including a 3-1 victory at home last month.

Furthermore, New Jersey’s recent losses have all been by a decent margin. The Devils are 6-9-0 in their last 15 games with all nine losses by at least two goals. That includes last night’s game in which they were leading a tired Penguins team 3-1 heading into the third period.

The Rangers are pushing hard and the dejected Devils are on the second half of a back-to-back. They started Jake Allen last night so it’s likely to be Kaapo Kahkonen tonight. He’s been fine in three games with the Devils but still carries a career SV% of .898.

On the flip side, it’ll be Igor Shesterkin in net for the Rangers. The former Vezina Trophy winner has turned a corner since the All-Star break, going 13-4-1 with a .929 SV% and 41 goals against in 18 games.

Devils vs Rangers same-game parlay

bet365 Logo

Rangers -1.5

Vincent Trocheck 1+ assist

Alexis Lafreniere 1+ goal

+700 at bet365

The New York Rangers are our best bet and one of the reasons for their success is the breakout of Alexis Lafreniere. He’s playing on the second line with Vincent Trocheck — who is also having a solid under-the-radar season — and Artemi Panarin.

Lafreniere has seven goals in his last eight games thanks to a hat trick over the weekend against the Coyotes. He was held off the scoresheet against the Penguins but the Devils may not be so lucky.

The more confident leg here, however, is the Trocheck assist. He has 75 points (50 assists) in 75 games this season and is on a tear recently. The centerman had a six-game assist streak with 10 helpers in that span before a goose egg against the Penguins. He recorded a point in all three meetings against the Devils this season, including an assist in two of them.
