Thiago Seybtoh Wild arrived in Madrid at a career-high ranking of No. 63 after overperforming in hard court tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami, where he reached back-to-back third rounds as a qualifier. The Brazilian has a natural affinity for clay, that is where he does his best work and showed his talent in dismissing World No. 29 Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. The match took 20 games to decide. Seyboth Wild saved all four break points on his serve, which proved decisive in the outcome of the match.
