Buemi concedes Envision ‘execution’ not good enough

Sebastian Buemi has conceded that Envision’s “execution” has not been good enough this season in their attempt to defend their teams’ championship, with it being down to both the team and himself.

Losing Nick Cassidy to Jaguar for Season 10 was already a huge blow to Envision’s title defence hopes before the campaign even started; however, Buemi and Robin Frijns are a more than capable duo who have the ability to win championships together.

The customer Jaguar outfit do, of course, also have an exceptional package, which has won a race this season courtesy of factory driver Cassidy. Buemi’s highlight this year is his P2 in the Mexico City season-opener, whilst Frijns was on the podium in Diriyah.

Apart from those two moments, it has been a campaign to forget so far for Envision, who sit on just 41 points after seven races, good enough for only ninth in the teams’ championship.

Courtesy of Cassidy, Envision were victorious at the Monaco E-Prix last season, although Buemi points out it is too difficult to predict if the team can claim victory again at the Circuit de Monaco this weekend.

“It’s a championship that is so close and so tight that it’s always a bit difficult, I would say to be certain of something,” Buemi told RacingNews365.

“I believe that we always have a car that can deliver well, but it’s about execution. It’s about making sure you put everything together in qualifying. And I think as a team, myself, we’ve not done a good enough job this year.

“Clearly Jaguar has done a better job than us. But even though you see that Porsche, Nissan, DS, Maserati, they have done a big step and are better than last year, and they are fighting so now you’ve got to do a perfect job if you want to be up there.”

‘We’ve struggled’

As mentioned, Envision is just ninth currently in the standings, with the team’s big issue being putting everything “together”.

Both Buemi and Frijns have shown glimmers of pace but not on a consistent basis, much to the dissatisfaction of the Season 2 Formula E champion.

“Yeah, clearly not happy and satisfied with what happened,” conceded Buemi. “I mean, I think we started well with P2 in Mexico, but then we’ve struggled to put things together.

“We’ve not done a good enough job clearly, facing the reality that we were working hard on trying to find performance, making sure we are able to put the weekend together.”
